January 5th, 2009

05:09 pm - 2009 isn't living up to my expectations
01. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Got accepted into college, quit a job, worked as a receptionist, worked for a corporation, went to college, lived in NYC.

02. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't do resolutions.

03 Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope.

04 Did anyone close to you die?
Matt Choiniere, love him.

05 What countries did you visit?
None--it's driving me bonkers.

06 What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
For everyone I love to be happy, comfortable, safe, and satisfied. And booty.

07 What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The day I quit NARAL--it sucked and felt weird. Moving into my apartment--it's near the ghetto, and i'm there for another 2 years. My birthday--it was a festival of love. Other hilarious moments, big and small.

08 What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting into college, I guess.

09 What was your biggest failure?
? I have no clue.

10 Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope, just disappointment every now and then. Chris was at college, so no bruises, thank god.

11 What was the best thing you bought?
My faux fur throw? Music? My chandelier? Aveda products?

12 Whose behavior merited celebration?
All of my friends, most of the time. My family.

13 Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
A few friends suffering from some middle school-like moments. And a few people I no longer speak with.

14 Where did most of your money go?
food, booze, music

15 What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Finally getting college over and done with, working at aveda, having an apartment, and all of the people in my life who i love.

16 What song will always remind you of 2008?
I think anything by Devendra Banhart and Lykke li.

17 Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? Happier most of the time.

b) thinner or fatter? I think I weigh the same, but I dropped a size in jeans--how does that work?

c) richer or poorer? poorer, my job pays a little less than what I was earning at NHPR and i work way fewer hours. also, NYC is insanely expensive and our economy is in the shitter.

18 What do you wish you'd done more of?
interesting and worthwhile things when i had the time available to do them.

19 What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasting time on nothing very worthwhile or interesting. And drinking. And second-guessing myself.

20 How will you be spending Christmas?
Spent it at home with the fam and grandparents, but without emily (she's a ski instructor in CO and didn't get time off to come home).

22 Did you fall in love in 2008?
Nope.

23 How many one-night stands?
I think none. Weird.

24 What was your favorite TV program?
the office.

25 Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Unfortunately I'm not a fan of those few aforementioned people and cut them out of my life, but I'm cool with it.

26 What was the best book you read?
Nothing very outstanding. Rings of Saturn was pretty interesting.

27 What was your greatest musical discovery?
Nothing very outstanding.

28 What did you want and get?
A job, acceptance into college, incredible friends at said college, and a nice apartment.

29 What did you want and not get?
A man/booty.

30 What was your favorite film of this year?
Russian Ark--it was made in 2006, I think, but I love it, I always cry at the end.

31 What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 20, I went to have Ethiopian food with my girls and sister downtown, and then my friend threw a party for me at his apartment which escalated to the point where the fire department showed up--I was pretty proud.

32 What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A man/booty.

33 How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
? Lots of skirts, heels, feathers, gold, dresses, belts, boots, flats.

34 What kept you sane?
My girls, my parents, the ellipticals at the gym.

35 Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
David Beckham

36 What political issue stirred you the most?
The election, gay rights issues, our environment.

37 Whom did you miss?
Nicholas, Bea, Jai, Concord kiddies.

38 Who was the best new person you met?
All of my friends at Pratt and the people I work with at Aveda.

39 Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
You can't expect to always be understood, regardless of how long or how well you know someone.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
That's how strong my love is.

i always lose track of how much more growing up we all have to do. i don't like walking around with this "now we are adults" kind of attitude. i guess when i think about it i worry about how out of touch with reality i can get. i'm sure this doesn't make much/any sense, and i don't know what triggered that thought, but it needed to be shared nonetheless.

so, i got rejected from hampshire. kind of. it was like "we think you're great, but we don't think we can trust you to committ to academics. get in touch with us when you've got some proof that you can do school". so the options are either make them meet with me again so i can talk them into reconsidering (because they should), go take summer courses all summer long and try to get good grades and reapply, go to some place like UNH and try to get good grades and reapply, or not go to college. it's also really awesome that mrs. bourgoine doesn't return my stupid phonecalls so i have like a week to get my shit together for a last minute marlboro application.

it's also really awesome that my ipod had a seizure and deleted all of my music.

and that the CAN alert that i'm being held accountable for (but did not write, or send out) doesn't have any useful information regarding locations, dates, and times so now i have to individually tell each person interested details for 12 different phonebanks, and the PNR Hearing on Thursday.

and my russian teacher thinks i'm not dedicating enough time to studying.

i love my life.

p.s: 2007 fucking sucks. it kind of creeps me out how quickly things have turned for the worse in nearly no time at all.

03:05 am - things that put me in a foul mood:
--being in malls; all related items

--no coffee.

--boys who don't know what they want, but pretend that they do.

--the grandparents.

--linda.

--no more friends.

--EMT's waking you up at 3am to take your dad to the hospital.

--college applications.

pretty much this past week in a nutshell!

i just remembered a moment from this new years ever where i had ben nicholson, garrett vanacore, craig levy, micah fuller, someone else (dan cassell???), and grayson putting on a performance by all doing pelvis thrusts in a line in front of me in synchronization.  it was pretty fantastic.

also, i miss maciek.

December 25th, 2006

07:01 am - ho ho ho.
so this year emily, matthew, and myself all decided that 2 of us would buy a combined gift for one another.  in emily's christmas shopping, she actually came up with something meaningful for us to buy matty and for matty and her to buy me.  unfortunately matty and i are stuck at the age of 7.

rather than trying to think up something that would be meaningful to her (ie: something related to the environment, or john mayer or something), we were assholes.  so we bought her a 4 pack of red bull because apparently she likes it, and 2 $15 itunes cards.  we're also taking her laptop and wrapping it and the battery charger while it's plugged into the wall downstairs.  we haven't stopped laughing all night long.  we're going to go to hell.  basically.

Deerhoof's 'The Runners Four' makes me think about riding home on the Jubilee line from work.  I miss London so bad.

But! Christmas!  And friends!  So it's okay for now.

But I want to move to England as soon as I can.  And bring Deathcab kids with me.  There are a lot of grassy knolls in England that we can chose from to make our own, it'll be cute.

09:00 pm - SHIT SON.
NARAL JUST OFFERED ME TO TAKE ONE OF THE MAIN POSITIONS.  I'M GETTING PAID.  WHATTUP SUCKAS.

it's a community organising/political organising position for a comprehensive sexuality education campaign awareness thing.  so i get to go all over new hampshire and start getting us into the media and hold discussions and stuff.  basically i get to do PR.  and a little bit of lobbying.  and sex education.  and talking to legislators and newpapers.  and round up volunteers and activists.  I'M SO PYSCHED.  and it's convenient because they're planning on changing the position and what it entails and stuff as soon as i leave for russia.  and i get to choose how much i get paid, it won't be much though.

anyway, things seem to be better than they've been in a while.  and by a while i mean years.  about 6 or so.

i won't complain if there's more change in store for me, though.

p.s: the new beck album is pretty badass.

p.p.s: i'm excited for christmas and deathcab.

so matty filled out the "Letters to santa" thing in the concord monitor.  it's a little form letter thing kids can fill out and "send to santa" and have published in the paper.

04:22 am

last night i had this really vivid dream, it's the kind where you feel it as it's happening, like anxiety or happiness and your heart rate pick up and stuff.  when i woke up i could remember it all and i decided not to forget it, but then i came downstairs and made some tea and i couldn't remember a thing.  bummer!

now i'm back to being the only kid in concord again.

i'm going to start making college visits to everyone soon.

i've got this awful feeling in my chest, it's like the kind that you want to get rid of so bad but there is nothing you can do about it. i don't like it when people influence the way i view or value myself, i dislike it even more when it's a negative influence, and i hate when i want to make those individuals feel worse than i do. it makes me want to crawl out of my skin.

things will lighten up when everyone comes home.

HEY ROOMATE.

STOP TALKING ABOUT HOW HIP EVERYONE KEEPS TELLING YOU YOU ARE. BECAUSE YOU AREN'T. TALKING ABOUT IT MORE ISN'T GOING TO MAKE ME WANT TO VALIDATE YOU.

It bums me out that this is how London has turned out to be. I love it here, I love living here, I just hate my job and the people I live with I find irritating. I miss deathcab.
